How to Act on a First Date
Posted on August 13th, 2009 by aileenDating is exciting. This is the best time to get to know that special person. A first date is crucial. Don’t screw it up if you want to get a second date. Here are some easy dating tips.
When on a date, remember to act accordingly and check your manners.
Guys
Plan the Date
Choose a place and time that are comfortable to you and your date. Plan for an activity that both of you will enjoy. A movie and a nice dinner is passé. By this time, you should at least have an idea on what your date likes. If your date is interested in bowling, take her to a nice bowling alley before or after dinner. You may also ask your date for any suggestions that she might like to do.
Call to Confirm
Call a few hours before the date to confirm the time and place. There might be some last minute changes. Be flexible.
Be Punctual
Arrive a few minutes earlier than the agreed time. It’s better for you to be the one waiting than the girl waiting for you.
Be a Gentleman
If you’re seated, stand up when your date arrives and help her take her seat. Don’t forget to open doors for her when entering a restaurant or any establishment.
Listen
Girls like guys who know how to listen. You don’t always have to be the one talking. Remember, the reason you’re on a date is to get to know each other more. Let the girl speak and listen attentively. Don’t just pretend to listen. Understand what your date is saying.
Give compliments
Girls like to know that you appreciate their efforts of dressing up for you. Let your date know how much you like her dress or how beautiful she is. Do this sincerely. Girls know if you’re just trying to flatter them.
Offer to Take your Date Home
Unless your date brought her own car, it’s always a plus to offer her a ride. Wait until she has entered her house before speeding away.
In General
Be Confident
Make a good first impression. Being nervous will get you nowhere. Before leaving the house, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. This will release the tension in your body.
Be Conversational
Avoid hot topics like politics and religion. Don’t forget that you’re on a date. It’s okay to ask questions, but don’t make it feel like your date is on a job interview. A question and answer portion over dinner is not a good idea. Ask questions that can easily lead to other topics. Subjects like school, family and work are not really very interesting. Talk about common interests. Never talk about past relationships. This will make you look like you still haven’t gotten over your ex.
Don’t Forget your Manners
Listen when your date is talking. Don’t eat like a goat. Close your mouth when chewing your food. Avoid putting your elbows on the table. Of course, never talk when your mouth is full.
Make eye contact
Your date should feel that you’re interested in being with him or her.
Smile often
Let your date know that you’re enjoying his or her company.
Be Witty
Know what’s going on around you and talk about it. Express yourself properly.
Turn your Cellphone Off or Put it on Silent Mode
A ringing phone is a big distraction. Only take a call if you think there might be an emergency. Excuse yourself when taking the call.
Don’t Get Drunk
A person who doesn’t know how to drink responsibly is a big turn off.
Thank your Date
Let your date know how much you’ve enjoyed his or her company. If you both feel the same, it’s okay to plan for a second date. Don’t play the dating game where you have to wait for several days for the other to call.
Dating can be so much fun if you know what to do. Be confident and show your real self. Don’t pretend to be somebody you’re not just to get yourself a second date. For more information regarding this article, read 3 First date disasters and how to survive them.
